Park Buddies

I ordered some Park Buddies papers from Scrapbooking castle's sale and a chipboard album and put together this album about my dog and his best friend! These were the 12 x 12 papers from Sei which included some die cut tags, alphabet and various stickers. It also included some iron on velvet transfers which I have not used before! Very interesting! Have not always managed to get them straight! Maybe I should have done them first, rather than trying to do them when the rest was completed and could have been ruined!!! You learn by experience!I loved doing it and tried to use different ways of journaling. I tried to remember all the key things about Barney and what he likes best, then linked it to his best friend and my friend, who we met several years ago in the park. We have our dogs in common and have formed a frienship that has lasted. She is such a lovely person, so kind, gentle and thoughtful and is battling hard against her cancer, which has returned for a third time. I wanted to place her in this book because she is an important part of mine and Barney's life. I have made this as a tribute to her.

I wish you all

Enjoy your evening and good health and

happiness in 2008!!!

Pencil Lines Challenge #64!

I have not attempted this Pencil Lines Challenge before, but thought I would give it a go! I scrapped another page for my Christmas album - photo's I took on Christmas day of my younger son in his new outfits! I think he might be a model if the dancing career does not materialise! I took some close up shots of details in the outfit and cropped these to fit in with the series of outfits. I did not find this an easy page to do. The photos had to be blocked and the strip across the bottom had to finish at the end of the block, also the arranging of the photo's took me ages and I positioned them to the finest detail. Positioning the whole block of photo's right on the edge of the page was also suprisingly difficult for me. All in all it was fab to be taken out of my normal, freeform, comfort zone and it made me think again about how and why I position things normally. I must admit I do it mostly by instinct and can tell when I am not happy with something without really knowing why.

The background paper was from American Crafts a la carte collection, I chose it because it had the right green to reflect the green in the clothing. I felt it was not right on Christams theme backing paper, or not the ones I had to hand anyway! The strips are saved from the lower edge of My Minds Eye papers! Crafters never waste a thing! (Joined them with a buckle where the writing was!) The centre of the buckle has a K & Co sticker that says "Pure Joy" - I felt this reflected his appreciation of his presents - clothes - that's all he wanted! A small journalling stamp gives the date and explanation of the photo. The title does not reflect Christmas either - but I felt it gave the feel of the page in a stylish way! Hope you like it anyway! Thanks for looking!

Morning all!

One of the reasons for starting to blog, was after an illness, I needed to find more time to relax and I felt that this was a perfect way to relax and make me do more craft! By making myself post something creative every day I have made myself have time to at least think about, read about, or do crafting! One of my sons, who is Dyspraxic, said the other day,"It's so nice to see you so happy!" Not sure he was so happy when he opened one of my christmas presents by mistake and found a box of double sided card!!!! "How can you get excited about paper?" he said!!!!!

Anyway, my husband has been laughing at me, up 'til all hours in the craft room, putting finishing touches to various challenge projects, scanning the internet for sale bargains! - got a thing about half price or better!!!!
So far I have managed to post something everyday, let me see how long I can keep it up, once I go back to work! Had to post a page I had done for a challenge over at Scrummy Stash Cafe last night, when I hoped to keep that as my project for today!!! Still never mind - here is a page a completed for the November challenge over on the do-crafts scrapbooking forum. The challenge was to use two patterned papers and a plain card and something printed (I think!) I used two papermania papers and I printed the words on vellum using my PC. I found two close up pics of lavender on the internet, as I wanted a difused feeling in the background and it was the wron season to photograph! This was a page for an 8x8 album of favourite family photo's. This is the same son who was 17 last friday!! (He wont thank me for posting it!) I love it, it was taken in France on holiday. Hope you like it!

P.S. Think I am suffering from overuse of the exclamation mark again!!! Sorry!!!! I write as I speak!!

Weekly challenge

Here is my reply to the weekly challenge on Scrummy Stash Cafe - this week it was a scrap lift and I decided to do the first layout for my 12 x 12 christmas album. I took two photo's of my real tree, both in darkness to capture the twinkling lights. One is a close up of the decorations and one is the whole tree. I used Bazzill cardstock, Basic Grey Figgy pudding papers, torn vellum and chipboard letters. The journaling is handwritten along the torn vellum edge. The ribbon and trims came from my Junkitz Flowerful kit. I wrote the subtitle of the year underneath the right hand photo in gold pen.

Hope you like it!

Playing with paper!

Yesterday I had a lovely time clearing out the craft room to make way for my new stash I got for christmas. My OH had gone back to work and my boys were both happy with their new stuff, so I had a play! I had to re-organise all my embellishments, brads etc into the boxes in my new carry-all, then organise my new tote for my 12 x 12 papers. I have not worked on a 12 x 12 album for me before, so I ordered a couple of kits of co-ordinating papers and two albums to start (with my christmas money.)
Rubber stamps are difficult to store, the box of ink pads wont shut and the embossing powders are too big for their box!!!! I gave up on them!Anyway, I enjoyed playing!

Here is an altered cereal box I made to store all my paper and vellum off-cuts that I wont throw away! They were all in a huge pile in a basket and I could never find them, now each type of scrap has a separate folder!!! (Vellum, glitter card, funky foam, pearl paper etc.)
It was made using Mimi papers from Bella press that I found and had forgotten I had!!! (Another useful thing about tidying up! You find things!) It matches my altered pen pot I made a few weeks ago! (from a gravy granules tub!)

Inside the holiday memories album

Here are the inside pages of this mini accordion album I made of holiday snaps for my sister for Christmas. She was very pleased with it! (Sorry about the quality of the snap!) Enjoyed experimenting with the fabric for the cover and stitching the photo on the front.

Happy Christmas!!!!!

I hope everyone had as lovely a day yesterday, as I did with my family. Here is a project I completed on christmas eve, a memory book of our summer holiday this year with my sister and her family. I decided to make the cover by sewing together two pieces of fabric and inserting cardboard before it was completely closed. I then trimmed the edges with pinking shears to stop fraying. You have to remeber to stitch the photo on one of the covers first, before you start! I decorated the cover with shrink plastic flowers glued on with silicone and chipboard letters dyed to tone with the photo on the cover. The photo on the cover was an original snap, which I altered in my photo software by using the chalk effect. The accordion album opens to reveal views that are mounted on pearl paper, with the background papers torn down one edge. The edges are inked in toning inks and flourishes stamped around the edges in distress ink. I stamped a flourish across the corners of each phot using Staz-on ink to act as a false photo anchor. I gave it to my sister as a present and she loved it!

Christmas traditions

Here is my fun glitzy, over the top scrapbook page as a tribute to that forgotten Christmas tradition -

The Christmas food shop!!!
Many of you will have been up since the crack of dawn, having no time to read this first, out to the shops and in those queues right up the aisles, getting those important last minute essentials and fresh foods! I re-wrote the words to twelve days of christmas, as a shopping list and handwrote them around the edges, understamped with ho ho ho! Don't know if it will make it into my scrapbook, but may have started a trend!

Scrummy Stash Cafe challenge

Here is my contribution to the "Rip your stash!" challenge. Needed an anniversary card for my parents for the 29th Dec so thought I would complete this using some of my Junkitz Flowerful Scrapbook Kit papers that I ordered as part of my christmas goody stash! (Hubby does not know I pinched some before he wrapped it!) Embossed a frame, then tore it, inked the torn edges, then made a card from Bazzill cardstock. I placed a contrast pattern behind the frame, then mounted the frame on 3D foam tape. I stamped a flower using my doodle stamps I just won on a ell known auction site, then highlighted the petals with 3D glaze. This I attached using a giant brad from the flowerful kit and trimmed the edge of the undercard with matching ribbon. I cut out the letters "happy" from one of the co-ordinating backing papers and finished off with handwriting the word "Anniversary". Hope you like it!

Altered art advent calendar

I altered this DIY chain store advent calendar that was in the sale. After adding Basic grey figgy pudding papers and a sheet of peel-offs it has turned into this!

Altered art advent calendar

After a heads up on UKS forum, I managed to find one of these advent calendars in my local DIY chain sale for £4.50!

Thursday, 20 December 2007

Oh no! The sales have started!

Oh I have succumbed already! Found a site with 50% off Basic Grey papers and Bazzill cardstock!!!!!!!!!!!

It wont be here before Christmas but it doesn't matter! The trend has started and I got a bargain!!!

The big Christmas food shop!

It came, last night! I had the foresight to book a slot a few weeks ago, when I was off work ill and I have been updating it since! Imagine my embarassment when the lad who delivered it said I had to have a van to myself - nearly!!!! (Exaggerating!) I have been off work 6 weeks and not been out of the house much, so we were out of everything! Plus it is my elder son's birthday this Sunday and we will be having a family party on that day and his mates around tomorrow night! Still, I decided to take a photo of it all on the kitchen table and floor and it will be a fun page in my xmas album in the new year!!
This online shopping is such a God send for those unable to shop either mentally or physically, I am very grateful for it and so are many other ill people.

Funny how everbody else in the house managed to be out when it arrived! So I had to put it all away!!!!!! That part was bad enough.

However look out for the scrapbook page!

Still no stash!

I have been ordering lots of presents for me from the internet - from my husband you understand!! It's very helpul to him and beneficial to me!
Some people may have already read my earlier posts about some papers that came from Scrummy Stash Cafe and how I was out when it arrived.
Read the two poems in earlier posts if you want to find out what happened.

Well, I have had a lovely e-mail from Maria at Scrummy Stash asking if she could use my poems on their shop website to warn all postmen about the perils of with-holding stash!

Check it out here! I am so thrilled!
However, other parcels, since this episode, are still outstanding! I am wondering if there is now a conspiracy against me receiving parcels!! Not many days left til Christmas!!! beginning to panic!!!

Last night of the panto!

The local BBC panto is over for another year. Awwwwwwww! More photo's here;

It was a fab evening including their rendition of the twelve days of christmas, which shall now never be the same for me! He he he!
Five toilet rolls,
Four pairs of knickers,
Three hard boiled eggs
Two rugby Shirts
And a bra that was meant to hold three!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well done to all and a big hug to my number two son who took part, we are very proud of you! (Blonde hair, only on one photo!)

Barney likes golfing!

Why not check out his skill!!!! Who said golf putting machines were for humans! They need remarketing as a dog toy! After tea, if he fancies a round of golf, he scratches the dresser door in the kitchen and I have to let him have a round of golf!!!!!! Happy watching! Let me know what you think? Should he have a handicap?!

My Shaker style Angel!

Handmade by me of course!

My Christmas Tree!

Here is my Shaker style Christmas tree! I have been colletcing traditional wooden ornaments over a period of years now and have enough to decorate three trees! I started by making a Shaker style fairy for the top of the tree from a craft magazine one year. After that a friend brought me some decorations from America and gradually I have added more and more wooden and tin ones including some that I have made from rusty sheets of metal my dad had, which we cut with tin snips! Much cheaper than bought ones! I have gradually reduced the number of glass baubles I use, although some still have to remain, including the ones I made with the boys when they were little, when we wrote their name on a glass bauble with glue and gold glitter! I find friends and family still pick folk art style ones up for me when they see them! I used to have a thing about themed trees even when they were young! My husband even remebers having to remove blue light bulbs from every set of fairy lights when we only posessed multicoloured sets!

Exploding box open!

Exploding box opening!

Exploding Box!

Here is an exploding box that I made from an idea on Craft TV weekly. Still finishing off my Christmas cards! This is for the staff at work as a collective card for the staff room table. Was supposed to be made from 12 x 12 card but I had none left, so stuck two pieces of 12 x 12 paper together to make it more rigid. The templates can be downloaded.

It is called 'Suprise box with Flair.' You have to log into the free membership before the download works. The demonstrator is Judi of "Judikins" fame!

New Stash Update!

Decided to risk all and attempt to pick up my parcel after 24hrs only!!!! Risking the wrath of the mighty Post Office. Here is the sequel poem on how I went on!

Crisis averted!
I went to the post
And tackled the postman
Where it hurt the most!
I demanded my parcel
I kicked up a stink
I NEEDED my stash
All that paper and ink!
I laid on the floor
Kicked my legs in the air
And finally
everyone looked in despair!
"Get this woman's parcel
From over there mate!"
Said the postman,
Reluctant to handle the wait!
"She seems kinda desperate
Quick as you can!!!!"
Said the faltering voice
Of the quivering man!
I stood up at the counter
I brushed myself down
I replied to the postman
As he stared with a frown.
I just thought I'd try it
It worked for my son!
You'd know that too
If you'd been a mum!!!

New Stash!

Have been ordering my own Christmas pressies off the internet! Just to save my hubby having to bother you understand! That way I get lots of crafting goodies! Last thursday a large consignment of scrapbook papers/embellishments arrived when I was out!!!!!!
Here is a ditty I penned on a craft forum to vent my anger!

Oh woe is me!
I just popped out
(The daftest thing
Without a doubt!)
For now I find
I missed the post!
A parcel!!!
(I like them the most!)
"Could not be left
Parcel too big
to hide behind your flowers!"
The worst part is
The ticket says
I must wait 48 Hours!!!!!!!!
That's saturday
my husband's home!!!!!
What am I to do!!!!!
I'll tell him
"It's a secret dear-
A big surprise for you!!!!!!"

Barney's Christmas card!

Am I the only mad person who creates an annual christmas card from the dog!

Barney's Christmas card!

It's done! I finally managed to complete Barney's card after an exhausting photo shoot with his new 99p hat! To be sent to a select few of his friends!

It's Panto time!! Oh no it isn't! Oh yes it is!

My son is appearing in the local BBC panto in Hull city centre. He enjoys doing panto every year and this year it is Cinderella! He has danced with a local dance school for years and is now 13! He thinks it's fab! Follow this link and check out some of the charities that are benefiting this year!
Also see some photo's!

My sister is 50!

Just given my sister her 50th birthday scrapbbok I made of our lives as children! It was made using a 7Gypsies acordion book and purse set and I covered them in Basic Grey papers from the infuse range. I bought blank chipboard numbers and used Papermania chipboard letters and embossed them all in a cranberry embossing powder to match. The book handle and key were from 7Gypsies too.

Barney's Christmas gift!

Idea for Barney's Christmas gift to his dog friends! These are what I made this year for the school Christmas fair. I always do dog and cat treats of some kind. This year it was recycled jam jars full of dog biscuits. Last year, I baked dog biscuits in heart shapes and covered washing powder boxes with dog and cat wrapping paper and filled with various treats. The year before that I made net stockings from nets from pears and similar fruits, then filled them with toys and treats. The year before that, it was crackers from kitchen roll tubes covered in dog and cat wrapping paper. So resourceful!

In the festive Spirit!

Even the dog is joining in the festive preparations! This was from Barney's photoshoot for his christmas card this year! He sends one to his best friend Lewis - a sheltie- usually enclosing some kind of dog treat! He also sends one to grandparents, as they usually but him some kind of present! He also encloses one with the wine he generously gives to the postman, to make up for the terrible way he barks at him every day! Will show completed card at a later date (Hopefully! Very late this year!)

My parcel has come!

Been enjoying myself, shopping for stash on the internet recently! Sent for loads of things for my own christmas pressie! Shopping on behalf of my husband is so much fun!!! I missed a parcel yesterday and the card said I was not to call and collect it for 48 hours! I nearly cried! How can anyone in their right mind wait 48 hours to view their new goodies!!!!!!!!
I penned this ditty today!

Crisis averted!
I went to the post
And tackled the postman
Where it hurt the most!

Mission accomplished!
I have my new Scrummy Stash Cafe Goodies!
Can't wait til Christmas day!!!

(Just had to open it and check it was all there!!!!!!)

Hi! I'm new to this, on a steep learning curve!!!! I am rediscovering my creative talents after an illness and have been inspired by other people's fantastic offerings! Had let my creative urges get submerged! Have two sons, one of which has Dyspraxia. He has just completed his GCSE's this year with a lot support from me! Thought about starting a blog years ago, when he was young to chart my struggles, but never had time or were able to do it technically. Hopefully, this blog will be a mixture of crafting and everyday occurrences, that will help and inspire others. Whether I manage to update it daily, remains to be seen!! Don't know as yet how to upload photo's either! Hoping that by committing to this, I will make time to craft!
