'Stitchy Business!'

So here I am after a miserable, wet and rainy bank holiday, with five layouts caught up for my fiftieth year album! There has to be an upside to the poor weather!! Layout one, to be fair was almost done in the planning stage, but had been shelved for over a month and I could not remember the initial placements exactly. I think it was even more difficult to complete because it was half started!! Anyway, here it is!
The title came from the yellow  pattern piece background paper, made by Studio Calico, that came in their Garment District kit a long time ago. I combined it with Maya road chipboard sewing elements. which I misted in Sunflower Yellow.
I also made an embellishment, using a Cosmo Cricket Gluber and some of the fabric I made my dress from. There is a video tutorial on how to make one of these twisted flowers here.
As it was a layout about sewing, I decided to use my new tool to add stitching to the layout. We R Memory Keepers Sew Easy tool (demonstrated here)
It comes with one head and so far I have bought two others
I did not buy one of these to start with, as there were mixed reviews, but it became apparent that if you buy the thick foam mat, instead of trying to save money and use an ordinary mouse mat, it then works perfectly and I have found that to be the case so far with what I have tried. I am so impressed I have ordered two more heads for it! So yesterday was a good day for scrapping! Back tomorrow with the next layout I completed! TFLx

50th Year album catch up

The other album I am busy with this year is a 12 x 12 album with a page done every week. I have not added to this for a while, but I have been making notes and printing photo's for the layouts, even if I have not got around to making them, so that they can be done, maybe this week, when I am on half term and can catch up!
Last weekend hubby took me to Newcastle using our Tesco hotel vouchers, as he thought we might both need a rest and a relax and he was right! I only took one photo, as we arrived over the Tyne bridge!
Newcastle is special to us as we both did our degrees here! Strangely, it's a bit like coming home! The places are familiar and the accent is comforting! We know our way around and the shopping is great! We always find plenty to do! With going away last weekend, I now have a whole week off work, with no interruptions, when I can craft to my heart's content and catch up a little! My jobs list looks like this;
Finish New York Album journalling
Make Vintage tea party album
Catch up on 12 x 12 layouts for the 50th Year album.
I made a list yesterday of layouts done and those still to do and actually I was quite up to date considering how busy I have been!!
I am 9 layouts behind by the time we get to week 22 which is on Monday! However, I have the layout topics and most of the photo's printed and ready to go, so that should not be too difficult to achieve this week! The monthly review layouts all have their collages ready to roll, as has the New York page. I have started using Picassa to make these, but I am not as fond of them as my old Corel Photo album 6 I used to have on my old computer, as all the photo's are even sized and there does not appear to be any movement within each little window, for the exact photo location like I was used to. I have downloaded a few free templates for Photoshop Elements but keep forgetting how to use them!!
Ok, less talking, more crafting!! I have reclaimed the craft desk, so I need to make a start! I will let you know how I get on. TFLx

My New York Paper bag album completed

Have finished assembling my album, I just need to do the journalling on all the journalling spots now! The album is made from a number of paper bags and carriers, as well as envelopes and postcards. These mismatch albums are my favourite style! I included ticket stubs and labels off clothing we bought as well as receipts and maps. Buying postcards adds another dimension and gives you photo's you could never take yourself as well as valuable journalling spaces on the back! TFLx

Book of me album for my 50th party

I put together an album for my birthday party, charting my life so far. I used old layouts as well as some of the new ones I have been doing to create a picture of me. The cover was made using a layout I had done for a challenge ages ago, in another size format that did not fit in any of my albums, but was the perfect introduction page! TFLx

Thank You Cards

I have started to make cards for my thank you letters and decided to use up some of my K&Co Madeline papers and chipboard butterflies.
I covered a square card with some background paper and then made a tag for each card topper including left over elements from the invitations. The tags were cut from Kraft Card stock.
No two cards were the same, just another eight or so to manufacture!
For some of the lovely gifts that I received! TFlx

Home made birthday!

I have just realised, how much money I have saved by making my homemade birthday myself! (Just need to convince Ian of this!!)
Why is it so strange to make things yourself these days when it used to be a matter of course?! This was just how my parties used to be!! All parents did it!
We had homemade invitations,
a home made dress,
second hand crockery,
and glasses
and cutlery,
a home made cake stand,
home made food,
home made party games,
home made cupcakes,
home made party bags
and home made fun!
I have gone back to being a child! TFLx
P.S. Good news today, my blood pressure is fine and I weigh 11lbs less than last September, the bad news today I have ordered new varifocal glasses with a stronger reading prescription!! ;( Hey Ho!

All vegetarians look away now!

You either like a hog roast, or you don't and if you don't then don't read on!
 Me and Barney Partying!
My nieces decoration of the chocolate cup cakes!!
Barney sporting his birthday bow! (Co-ordinating with my dress of course!)
And the hog roast!
I had a wonderful 50th birthday and I am very tired today! Unfortunately I did not take many photo's :( I hope that other people did!! TFLx

The dress

It cost more for the pattern than the fabric! The net petticoat was about £3 to make too!

Framed! (but don't tell them!!)

Thanks to all for entering in to the spirit of the event and helping me embrace my old age!

A truly memorable event! Ordered prints online and now busy making accordion fold thank you cards for everyone! TFLx

Cupcake triumph!!!

So yesterday was the day of the vintage tea party with my work colleagues and it was such great fun! I thoroughly enjoyed myself! We laughed from 3pm until it finished at 8pm!!!!  The rose cupcakes worked really well and I was especially pleased with them, including the edible glitter. Today I am sorting and editing photo's, putting crockery away and tidying up! I am very tired! Will be back to post more pics tomorrow hopefully! The outfits were fab! TFLx

There's going to be fun and games!!!

Of course there is! It's a party!! Here is my 'pass the parcel' wrapped lovingly with 16 layers! One for everyone!!
In each layer there is a surprise gift attached to a label with an old fashioned name for the party and a tombola number for the "tea" themed prizes in the party bags! Talking of which, here are the party bags!!
I cut tags from scraps of Bazzill cardstock and punched out flowers with a Woodware flower punch. I glued on a button for the centre. The bee was stamped using a Studio Calico stamp and some Jenni Bowlin ink. One bag with their old fashioned 'name for the day' on!
There will be tea themed 'objects on a tray' memory game, a tea quiz, tea trivia and a 'guess the price' game for some of my eBay purchases! If we get through all that and eat the afternoon tea we will have done well!!
The old fashioned names will also lead to a random place setting as we wont know who is who until the first game is over!
The prizes for the games will be drawn using their tombola number. Anyone who has not won a game will draw their tombola number at the end for the final party bag presents. The tombola numbers have been attached to some secret tags in my miniature tea pot, when you pull out your number it tells you what you have won! TFLx

Party Preparations

As you can never rely on the British weather, plus we have had so much nice weather recently, it is bound to turn nasty next weekend, I decided to get my tables ready for the vintage tea party next Saturday, well in advance. Also, I wanted to see if we would all fit in!!
We brought the garden furniture table inside and added it to the end of the extended kitchen table. That, along with all eight of my dining chairs, has allowed me to seat seventeen people!
I spread out my new eBay embroidered tablecloths, to check they would cover the table this size and added my fake flowers. Now we just have to walk around it all for a week!! Not too bad as hubby is away on business and I am sure I will be busy cooking all week!!

I also spent yesterday getting out, and washing a lot of eBay glasses for the Pimms,

and the pink champagne,

Then spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning my newly acquired silver as well as one or two family pieces!!

I also started to get out some of the China I have been busy collecting,

All in all, not a bad day's work and it is making me feel it is getting very close now!! TFLx
